The Importance of Who You Were Created to Be
Before you were knitted together in your mother’s womb, God knew you just like He knew Jeremiah and told him so in the first chapter of Jeremiah. He wanted you before your parents knew each other or you or God. Your life means so much to God that He made sure you came into the earth at the exact moment you made your appearance. He chose your parents as the vehicle for your entry, but has had His hand on you every moment of your life – even during your times of hardship and challenge when it appeared that no one, not even God, was there for you.
Not only did He conceive of you and make sure you made it into the earth, He assigned a divine purpose with your name on it and placed inside of you everything you would ever need to reach the fullness of that purpose. He knew in this fallen world, there would be many circumstances that would try to steal your identity and blind you to your purpose, which would keep you off balance and confused about life and how you are supposed to live it – that grand purpose that God wanted you for.
In fact, that purpose is so grand that it will far outshine the greatest life you could ever imagine living during your lifetime. Your challenge is to believe this truth and hold on to it like a pit bull all while satan attacks you with doubt, trouble and confusion. But, the good news is God promised never to leave you nor forsake you so that you would never be alone and you would never have to fight your battles in your own human strength.
You’ve got something much better and much stronger to fight them for you – God Himself! He has also commanded His angels concerning you (meaning to watch over and protect you from the enemy’s fiery darts (Psa. 91:11).
Here’s a little encouragement from His Word for you to plant deep down on the inside of your heart to guide you, guard you and strengthen you:
- Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith (Heb. 12:2);
- Read and meditate on God’s Word regularly so that it may be planted and rooted deeply in your heart (it is your spiritual nourishment like food is to the body) (Psa. 119:15 and Matt. 4:4);
- Offer your body as a living sacrifice unto the Lord, do not conform to the pattern of this world, and allow His Word only to renew your mind (Rom. 12:1-2);
- Believe everything His Word says (even when you don’t understand it yet) (Mark 9:23 and John 6:29);
- Love others as He has loved you (John 15:12);
- Always, always be ready to forgive others as you have been forgiven (Luke 6:37-42);
- Remember nothing that exists could ever separate you from His love (Rom. 8:38-39);
- Know that all of your sins (past, present and future) have already been dealt with at the cross and placed on Christ and He, in turn, gave you His righteousness and you didn’t have to do anything to get it other than believe by faith that that really happened. God will never associate you with sin again and that will free you from the grip that sins has over your flesh and giving in to the temptations placed before you.
Embracing this truth will cause you to live righteously out of appreciation much more than you trying to be good. Temptations will come but now that the Spirit dwells in you, you can say no each time. Of course, you must be yielded to the Spirit so that God’s perfect work is worked in you and to experience your ability to overcome the lusts of the flesh. But, if you do sin, remind yourself of who you are – a new creature in Christ, confess it, repent (change your direction) and go on. (2 Cor. 5:17-21); - Don’t be ignorant of the enemy’s schemes against you (2 Cor. 2:11);
- Be strong and very courageous and do not fear (for “God has not given you a spirit of fear …”) (Josh. 1:9 and 2 Tim. 1:7); and
- Last, but most definitely not least, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not to your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.” (Prov. 3:5-6).
Your Identity in Christ
If you don’t know yet who God made you to be, begin to seek Him about it. He wants you to know exactly how He wants to live in and through your person. Remember, you have His blessed Holy Spirit on the inside of you always ready to lead and guide you into all of this with a God-confidence and loving humility at the same time that will change your life and the lives of others for the good.
Rise and stand tall. Become the man or woman God has made you to be. Walk in your heavenly anointing. This may sound mountainous, but His Spirit will shield, cover and empower you and He will teach you everything you need to know when you need to know it. Do not fear, be strong and very courageous!!!!!!
